Franson, Elizabeth Anne

Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Franson, 89, of Galesburg died at home at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday March 25, 2014.

She was born January 17, 1925 in Galesburg to Serepta Lightner and Charles Simpson and raised on farms near Oneida and Henderson. She married Raymond LaVerne Franson at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg on July 16, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2005.

Surviving are two sons Dr. Timothy of Zionsville, Ind. and Marc (Marilyn) of Kenilworth, Ill.; one daughter, Karla (Roman) Wegrzyn of Peoria, Ill.; six grandchildren, Scott (Katee) Franson, Rebecca Franson, Melissa (Nick) Laviolette, Brant Wegrzyn, Lesly Wegrzyn, and Elizabeth Franson; and one great grandchild, Maxwell Franson.

Betty graduated from Orion High School and Brown’s Business College and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, Galesburg Soy Products and its successor company Archer Daniels Midland. She was active in the Galesburg Lioness Club and a long time volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and Cottage Corner (now Community Treasures). She was very active in First Lutheran Church, singing in the choir for decades, teaching Sunday school and serving in guilds and on the Church Council.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the care provided to her in the final years by Western Illinois Managed Home Care.

Visitation will be Friday March 28, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Additional visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church following the funeral and burial. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Galesburg or the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter.
