Green, Kermit E.

Mr.Kermit E. Green 79, of Galesburg, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Rosewood Care Center.

 

Kermit was born March 4, 1935 in Beardstown, Ill., the son of James Kermit and Dorothy (Johnson) Green. He married Shirley K. Conrad on March 2, 1958 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey (and B.J.) Green of Bettendorf, Iowa, Timothy (and Pam) Green of Galesburg, and Brian (and Amy) Green of Fitchburg, Mass.; three brothers, Lawrence Green of Oquawka, Ill., Melvin (and Marilyn) Johnson of Hanna City, Ill. and Kenny Melton of Galesburg; a sister, Nadine Watters of Oquawka, Ill.; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Kermit spent most all of his life in Galesburg. He attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1955. He spent a short time in the U.S. Air Force. He owned and operated Green’s Home Improvement and spent 25 years as a self employed contractor, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of the Hope Wesleyan Church in Galesburg and served as a trustee for the church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #894 in Galesburg and the Galesburg Rifleman’s Club. He was an officer for the Galesburg Pigeon Club and was treasurer for the Class of 1955 Reunion Committee.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday April 2, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Stephen Descalzo will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hope Wesleyan Church or the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
