Bronson, H. Melvin, Jr.

H. Melvin “Moose” Bronson, Jr., 94, Galesburg, died at 6:47 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Cottage Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1919 in Galesburg the son of H. Melvin and Mary Fannie (Glaves) Bronson Sr.  He married Vivian I. Larson on August 26, 1943 in Pomona, Calif.  She preceded him in death on March 4, 1994.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Thomas) Feeley of Belleville, Ill.; a granddaughter, Sarah Feeley of St. Louis, Mo.; and a brother, John (Silvia) Bronson of Krebs, Okla. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, John M. Bronson; and two sisters, Connie Kuhn and Jane Adler.

Melvin served in the Technical Training Command of the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1941-1945. An instructor of aircraft instruments at 27 different air bases, teaching flight and ground crews. Ranking as staff sergeant at the time of his discharge. He then  served six years in the Air Force Reserves. Melvin was honored by participating in the Honor Flight in 2011.

He was an electrician for Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years. He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1938.  He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 67 years, member of  Grace Episcopal Church and a member of the Burlington Route Historical Society. He enjoyed attending the Stearman Fly-In every year.

Cremation will be accorded.  Celebration of his life visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 4, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.  Rev. Peggy Lee will officiate.  Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.  Online condolences may be made atwww.h-p-w.com.
