Marshall, James W.

Mr. James W. Marshall age 90 of Wataga, Ill. died Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 3:25 am at the Marigold Nursing Home.

He was born January 29, 1924 in Nauvoo, Ill. the son of William and Maude Adams Marshall. He married Thelma M. Pate October 12, 1946 in West Burlington Iowa.

Jim is survived by his children Joyce Setta of Rancho Cordova, Calif., James and Mary Marshall of Oneida, Ill., Connie and Richard Knott of Wataga, Ill., David and Vonna Marshall of Wataga, Ill., Roxanna and Chuck Guss of Aledo, Ill., thirteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, two sons Rodney and William “Bill”Marshall, one brother Robert Marshall, three sisters Ann Crowner, Doris Marshall, and Maude Ebert.

He worked for the CB&Q Railroad, the Illinois Department of Transportation, owned and operated with his wife the Knotty Pine in Wataga, Oneida Snack Shack, and the Elks Club in Galesburg for many years. He was a forty two year member of the Elks Lodge #894 and a sixty eight year member of the American Legion Post #285. Jim and Thelma were very active in the Wataga community receiving the Citizen of the Year Award, he started the first little league baseball team in Wataga the “Wataga Cubs” and was an avid Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Jim served in the Army during WWII.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded. Memorial Graveside Service will be at 10 am Monday at Wataga Cemetery with Rev. James Ecklund officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #285 Honor Guard. A celebration of life will be Monday from 1-4 pm at the Galesburg Elks Club. Memorials may be made to the Elks Club Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
