Granberg, Howard R.

Howard R. Granberg, 93, of Galesburg died at 12:22 am Friday, April 4, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 28, 1920 in Galesburg the son of Philip and Elsie Jacobson Granberg. He married Frances R. White in Kahoka, Mo. on February 14, 1942. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1990

He is survived by one son, Gary W. (Kathy) Granberg; two daughters, Peggy (Roger) Anderson and Linda Allgeyer all of Galesburg; his sister, Phyllis Woolley-Hanson of Galesburg and six grandchildren, Christopher (Barb) Granberg, Jason Granberg both of Madison, Wisc., Amy Anderson of Galesburg, Sam (Kristi) Anderson of Abingdon,Ill., BJ Allgeyer of Alexis,Ill and Farrah Gagliano of Roscoe, Ill and four great grandchildren, Ben and Henry Granberg and Addisyn and Corinne Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Chuck Granberg and a son-in-law, Brian E. Allgeyer.

Howard drove a truck for Gunther Construction, retiring in September 1985. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and the 40 & 8. In 1937 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in Oregon. He was a Sgt. In Patton’s Third Army in WWII. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching the Cubs and the Bears. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of his life.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Monday, April 7, 2014 at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
