Love, Donald E.

Donald E. “Don” Love, 86, of Galva, died at 1:05 PM, Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga, TN while wintering in Crossville, TN.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 7 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Ann Champion will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, April 6 at the funeral home with Masonic Rites being held at 4:45 PM. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice House of Chattanooga.

He was born August 4, 1927 in Orion, IL, the son of Lloyd and Ethel Love. He married Doris I. Brown on March 21, 1948 in Galva and she preceded him in death on October 30, 1989. He later married Catherine “Kit” Eggleston on November 30, 1991 in Indiana. She survives, as do four sons, Ron Love of Laurinburg, NC, Jeff (Cindy) Love of Lomax, IL, James (Sharon) Love of Galva and Rick (Paula) Love of Laurinburg, NC, a daughter, Caryn (Randy) Lootens of Sheffield, a daughter-in-law, Melody Pesta, sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mahlon and a daughter in infancy, Cindy.

Don graduated from Altona High School and served his country in the Navy during WWII. He had farmed all of his life in the Galva area, had been Pioneer Seed Rep. for 22 years and was also a private pilot. He had been a director and officer of the Knox County Farm Bureau, Galva COOP, Federal Land Bank and the Knox County Oil Company. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Altona.
