Spring Trout Fishing Season Underway in Illinois

WGIL Newsroom . State News, State Sports 176

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The spring trout fishing season is underway at nearly 50 locations across Illinois.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Marc Miller says the season started Saturday. He says it’s “always a great time for families to go fishing and catch some tasty trout.”

Each spring the department stocks more than 60,000 rainbow trout in bodies of water where fishing is allowed.

This year that includes four new locations: Pine Lake in University Park, Green Lake in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Wolf Lake at the William Powers State Recreation Area in Chicago and Lake Mendota in La Salle County.

Participants must purchase an Illinois fishing license and inland trout stamp. Licenses and a list of all stocked sites are available on the department’s website.
