A proposed Amtrak route linking the Quad Cities to Danville has gotten one step closer to becoming a reality.
Yesterday the Illinois House approved a non-binding resolution for the possible new Amtrak route. The measure is sponsored by 74th District State Representative Don Moffitt who says moving forward with this Amtrak line would expand travel around the state.
“It would be come a feeder line to the high-speed corridor that’s already established and to our three basically North, South lines of Amtrak in Illinois, that’s Chicago to Quincy, Chicago the Saint Louis Edwardsville and Chicago to Carbondale. ”
Moffitt says connecting the Quad Cities to Danville would truly open the door for access to education allowing people to attended a number of educational institutions along the line.
At this time Moffitt says a study is being conduct regarding the cost estimate of the project, however, he says this resolution is simply for consideration of the project.
