A company contracted to remove infected Ash trees in Galesburg is now prevented from doing business for the City over a period.
Clean Sweep Tree Service was hired in February of this year to begin disposing of trees infected with the Emerald Ash Borer Beatle. Just over one month into the contract, however, the company submitted a letter to the City of Galesburg indicating they would be unable to finish the job.
Due to the breach of contract, the City’s Administration recommended banning the company for a period of five years. That figure was still not good enough for First Ward Alderman Ken Goad.
“This company left us in the lurch on an extremely important project,” says Goad. “It’s putting the project from what I understand, either has, or is behind.”
Goad suggested placing a ban on the company for 20-years, but the amended motion failed. The City Council did, however, approve banning Clean Sweep Tree Service for the originally proposed 5-years.
New services will be employed to complete the removal of trees infected with the Emerald Ash Borer.
