Former Silver Streak pitcher Kyle Hunter joined us today on the WGIL Morning News. Kyle is in Arizona, awaiting his assignment by the Seattle Mariners to start the new season, after missing the opening days due to a groin injury suffered in spring training. Kyle talked about when he expects to return to action.
“The trainers down here have told me that they want me to get one more bullpen session in tomorrow, and then get in a scrimmage game on Monday and Wednesday,” Hunter said. “In terms of then, they said I’ll be cleared to go after that – just about getting assignment and getting out there and playing again.”
Kyle said that while spring training provides a nice climate in which to play, there is still pressure to perform.
“I like it. It’s a grind every day, having to get up early, and you’re competing for a job with 200 other guys,” Hunter said. “That part of it definitely is grinding on you, but it’s fun.”
Hunter said he isn’t sure whether he will be sent to the Mariners Class double-A affiliate in Jackson, Tennessee, or the triple-A club in Tacoma, Washington.
