Cannabis Found During Amtrak Search

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 689

IL-GalesburgPDGalesburg Police arrested one man Thursday at the Amtrak Depot after a passenger with a lengthy criminal history was located on one of the trains.

According to the police report, 28-year-old Kriss Barton was travelling from Arizona and was noticed to have a valid warrant for possession of cannabis out of Morgan County.

Barton has had 10 prior drug related arrests. Officers were stationed at the Amtrak Depot around 1:30 p.m. yesterday and identified Barton using a photo.

Police say he began walking away from officers and when they asked him to identify himself, he allegedly would not give them his correct name. Due to some prior charges, officers cuffed Barton and used the K-9 – which allegedly gave a positive alert on his travel bags.

Further searches of his bag allegedly revealed three vacuum sealed bundles of cannabis totaling 589 grams. Two baggies containing 63 hydrocodone pills and a single gram of cocaine were also allegedly located.

Barton allegedly told police during questioning that he had purchased the cannabis from a source in Arizona and was intending to sell the cannabis at a profit in Springfield.

He is facing charges of possession of cannabis and delivery of cannabis.
