A Galesburg School District official will soon gain an administrative post at a Knoxville School.
The Knoxville School Board voted at a special meeting last night to hire Dan Powell as principal for Knoxville Junior High School, replacing the resigning Matt Graham. Powell is currently a social studies teacher at Galesburg High School North.
District-202 Superintendent Steve Wilder says everyone who’s met Powell is impressed with him.
“If you’ve met Dan or been around him for very long, you know the enthusiasm and passion that he brings,” Wilder said. “I was struck by the consistency in the references, how they talked about Dan’s commitment, how student-focused he is. One of the things that Dan does is draw…people to him.”
Wilder says Powell was part of what he called a “comprehensive” interview process. A salary is not yet available for Powell, as Wilder says contract details are still being worked out. He will start August first.
The District-202 Board last night approved seeking bids on nearly a million dollars in furniture and other items for the addition to Knoxville High School being built. The number is down about $100,000 from original estimates.
