Simpson, Mary Suzanna

Mary Suzanna “Susie” Simpson, 85 of Little York, Illinois died peacefully at 1:30 P.M., April 23 ,2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital with family by her side.

She was born on December 16, 1928 at home in Mercer County, the daughter of Jasper and Ida (Forsyth) Lloyd. Susie was raised and educated in the Aledo area graduating from Aledo High School in 1946.

She married Kenneth R. Simpson on February 24, 1950 at the Antioch Baptist Church north of Aledo. Kenny preceded her in death on November 27, 1987.

Susie worked for the Home Bureau and Production Credit Association in Aledo. She enjoyed painting and watching the game show network. She was devoted to her family especially her grandchildren. She attended their ballgames and other activities. She was a true farm girl. As a child, Susie helped her mother cook and serve large meals to the threshing crews. It was a tradition she continued as she cooked and delivered meals to the field to her husband and sons.

She was a long time member of the Little Cedar Church in Little York, Illinois.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Joe (Terri) Simpson and Jim (Jane) Simpson of Little York, IL, one brother, Lowell Lloyd of Illinois City, IL, two sisters, Barbara (Ted) Granquist of Rochester, MN and Carolyn (Larry) Makoben of Bettendorf, IA. five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents, six brothers, one sister and two great grandsons.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 26,2014 at Little Cedar Church in Little York, IL, with Pastor Dave Dutton officiating. Cremation has been accorded. Burial of her ashes will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery following the service. Friends may call on Friday, where family will be present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hoover Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth.
