QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — Police in western Illinois say a man out with his dog has found skeletal remains behind a shopping center.

Quincy Police Lt. Dina Dreyer says the remains were found Wednesday evening and investigators remained at the scene on Thursday morning. She says investigators “are finding bones and skeletal remains.” Police say the remains were scattered and have been there for at least a year.

Dreyer says the remains have been identified as male. Officials are working to identify the person.

Adams County Coroner James Keller confirmed skeletal remains were found. Keller says his office will examine the remains.
