Danny R. Sammons, 60, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 12:43 PM Friday, April 25, 2014 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born on January 18, 1954 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Kenneth and Ruthie M. Hewitt Sammons. He married Kristy A. Wilt on March 16, 1974 in Ottumwa.
Danny is survived by his wife, Kristy; a son, Jerrod (and Dana) Sammons and granddaughter, Abigail Sammons of Galesburg; a grandson whom he raised, Darius Sammons; three brothers, Keith (and Sue) Sammons, Mike Sammons and Tony Sammons, all of Ottumwa; two sisters, Angie (and Jack) Ware and Linda Sammons, both of Ottumwa. Also surviving are his in-laws, Jack and Jerri Livingston and Charles and Karen Wilt, all of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer L. Sammons on May 26, 2000. Also preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Dustin.
Danny was a conductor with the BNSF Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 2011. He lived in Galesburg since 1985. He was a member of the U.T.U #195. A true outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He loved watching his kids and grandkids and enjoyed attending their sports activities. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Dennis McQuown officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
