Wet grounds continue to be a problem for area athletic teams as they try to get games in here on the final day of April. The Galesburg High School sophomore baseball team’s game with Mercer County has been cancelled for today. Games remaining on the light area schedule include the Galva/Williamsfield baseball team traveling to Brimfield, and the Monmouth-Roseville softball team playing at ROWVA.

The Monmouth College softball team will enter this weekend’s Midwest Conference Championships at Lake Forest looking for its first league crown since 1987. Monmouth will face St. Norbert in Friday morning’s opening game, to be followed by Lawrence against Lake Forest. After opening league play by losing 3 of their first 4 games, the Fighting Scots have reeled off six consecutive conference wins to qualify for the post-season tourney.

In college baseball, Monmouth and Knox will renew their rivalry with a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. The Scots and the Fire will meet on Saturday at Monmouth, and then play Sunday in Galesburg. Neither team is in postion to qualify for postseason play.
