Reeves, Virginia Maxine

Virginia Maxine (Deal) Reeves, age 88, previously of Galesburg and now living in Bloomington, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, after a short, but brave, battle against liver cancer.

Virginia was born February 28, 1926, in Beggs, Okla., the daughter of Aaron and Mary Deal. She married Charles G. Reeves on June 27, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1970.

Surviving are one daughter, Cindy (David) Brown of Normal, Ill.; two grandsons, Brian (Kim) Brown of Normal and Brad Brown of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a very special friend, Howard Little of Bloomington. The light of Virginia’s life were her two great-grandchildren, Tyler Lorraine Brown and McCade David Brown of Normal. Gini had many loving nieces and nephews and many friends that will miss her dearly.

Virginia moved to Galesburg at the age of 13, and graduated from Galesburg High School with the Class of 1944. Her working years were spent at Meadow Gold, Rowe Mfg., City Hall, and Intra-State Telephone Company. She served in many volunteer jobs and was a Past President of the Galesburg Women’s Club. She had also been active, with her dear friends, Joan Baker, Sally Kern, and Alice Johnson in a Sweet Adeline’s quartet. Sewing, knitting, crocheting and cheering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on in their sports endeavors were her passions, as was her love of her pets through the years. Above all, the most important thing to Gini was family.

Virginia’s service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. M.J. Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society, 1855 Windish Drive, Galesburg, IL. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
