Galesburg Firefighters found themselves battling another fire involving a vacant structure on Saturday morning.

The call came in just after 2:30 a.m. which saw trucks respond to the 200 block of George Avenue. Crews were on scene in about five minutes where half the trailer was engulfed in flames.

The fire took about one hour to contain, but the trailer was described as a total loss in the incident. According to the police report, the fire department believes flames may have started in a shed next to the trailer before spreading.

The property manager at the site said that particular trailer had been vacant for six years and the utilities were turned off.

This is at least the fourth fire to a vacant structure in Galesburg in recent weeks.

Galesburg Police and Fire say the incident on Saturday is being investigated and according to the police report was described as “suspicious.”

No injuries were reported in the incident.
