Steven D. Johnson, 64, of Galesburg, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at home.
He was born October 23, 1949 in Galesburg, the son of Herman H. and Floy N. (Miller) Johnson. He married Kristy D. Boynton on October 1, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Kristy; a brother, Craig Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four sisters, Leslie Fletcher of Galesburg, Kathy (and Donald) Bell of Aledo, Randi (and Bruce) Richardson of San Diego, Calif., and Sue (and Rob) Carey of Katy, Texas; his mother-in-law, Joan Boynton of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Karen Cratty of Galesburg; two brothers-in-law, Kraig Boynton of Galesburg and Kevin Boynton in Wisc.; and three nieces, seven nephews, three great nieces, and five great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bruce Johnson; father-in-law, Max Boynton; two brothers-in-law, Mike Cratty and Crawford Fletcher; and a nephew, Jeff Rickords.
Steve had worked for Blaine Gorham Carpets for seven years, then worked for Galesburg Builders Supply for 20 years, retiring May 1, 1994. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1967 and attended Carl Sandburg College and Monmouth College. Steve was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid history reader and collected books about Carl Sandburg and Abraham Lincoln. Steve enjoyed going to auctions and traveling and adventures.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
