Sandburg signees
The Carl Sandburg College athletic department announced a pair of student-athlete signings yesterday. The men’s basketball team will welcome Kewanee Wethersfield High School senior Trevor Lay. Lay made a verbal commitment to the school last week, but wasn’t confirmed until yesterday’s signing. He averaged nearly 29 points-per-game for the Flying Geese this past season. Also committing to Sandburg yesterday was United High School’s Caleb Newell. Newell, who was a 3-time sectional qualifier, will be playing golf for the Chargers next spring.
There will be a few area athletic teams in competition on this warm and windy Wednesday. In baseball, ROWVA travels to Sherrard; Knoxville hosts Alleman; and Abingdon/Avon welcomes Lewistown. In softball, Galva/Williamsfield goes to Brimfield, Knoxville makes the short trip to Abingdon, and ROWVA hosts Sherrard.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks baseball and softball teams will return to action tomorrow, with the baseball team playing host to United Township, while the softball squad will host Peoria Notre Dame.
