Assistant Superintendnet for Finance and Operations David Black told the District-205 School Board’s Budget Committee yesterday cost containment helped keep the budget pretty much on the same track it was at the beginning of the school year.
But Black says there is one big blight on the budget that had to be solved.
“We had $3 million of construction over-runs, that had to be covered,” Black said. “If you take that out, the budget looks pretty good. We’re about a half million dollars in the hole in operating funds, but those things had to be taken care of. Those were discussed back in September and October.”
Black says some of the construction overruns were on work done in the Master Facilities Plan on Steele and Lombard Schools, and were problems before he took over.
He says in some cases otherwise, some expenses were higher than anticipated, but revenues were lower than projected.
