The corner of Illinois and State street in the city limits of East Galesburg has been shut down.
Darrell Corbin, Chairman of the East Galesburg Village Board Road and Bridge Committee says there is a one inch crack in circular motion in the road.
He says currently that crack has collapsed and the road has shifted about six inches to a foot more down the hill.
Corbin says the substantial drop in the road is extremely worrisome and they’re closing the road off to all thru traffic.
He says farm vehicles and others that cause heavy vibrations are asked not to travel on the road to avoid further damage and any major safety concerns.
Detours have been posted in an effort to reroute traffic.
