Johnson, Marion P.

Marion P. Johnson, 98, of Kirkwood, IL died at 5:38 P.M. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth.

Marion was born on September 16, 1915 in rural Kirkwood, IL; the son of Paul Frederick and Daisy Mae (Ryner) Johnson.  He was raised and educated in Kirkwood and attended Columbia Grade School, a one room school in rural Kirkwood.  Marion graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1933.  Marion lived in the Johnson family home for 85 years.

Marion married Winifred Irma Downes in rural Biggsville, IL on January 18, 1941.  She preceded him in death in November of 1987.

Marion farmed all of his life in Kirkwood.  He managed the Ricketts-Palmer Farms from 1968 until he retired in 1998.

Marion was a member of the Kirkwood Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon, and Trustee.  He was a 78 year member of the A. Lincoln Masonic Lodge # 518 A.F. & A.M.  Marion was also a member of the Kirkwood Lions Club, Holstein Friesian Association, and was a 4-H Club leader.  He also enjoyed raising Shetland ponies.

Marion is survived by his son James (Sandy) Johnson of Kirkwood, daughter Karen (Steve) Erlandson of Kirkwood, six grandchildren; Kris (Pat) Repp of Kirkwood, Jeff (Jill) Johnson of Kirkwood, Paula Nuckles of Monmouth, Sara Erlandson of Lincoln, IL., Wendy (Jeremy) Anderson of Roseville, IL, and Cindy (Jeremy) Bruce of Downs, IL.  Also surviving are ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, great grandson Matthew S. Repp, and his brother Kenneth Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2014 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth with Pastor Pam Moore officiating.  Interment will be in Center Grove Cemetery.  Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the funeral home; his family will be present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Kirkwood Westminster Presbyterian Church.  For more information or to leave an on-line condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
