Richard E. “Rich” Shugart, age 69 of rural Abingdon, died at 4:39 am Saturday, May 10, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on December 15, 1944 in LaHarpe, the son of Ray W. and Edith M. (Stout) Shugart.
Rich is survived by two sons, born from his marriage to Diane Hook, Darrin Shugart of Abingdon and Derek Shugart of Galesburg; one grandson, John; two sisters, Judith Ann Lambiaso of Abingdon and Elaine Swigart of Clearwater, Florida; and an aunt, an uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Damon Reid Shugart, an infant brother, Maurice Ray Shugart, an adult brother, Jerry Lynn Shugart, a nephew, Erich Ehren Swigart, and a brother-in-law, Frank Lambiaso.
He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1963. He was a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He worked as a carpenter for Carpenters Local #183 in East Peoria. He also farmed.
Cremation will be accorded. Private burial of his ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson -West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
