Mailen, David L.

David L. “Dave” Mailen, 83, of Abingdon, formerly of Williamsfield, died at 7:25 PM, Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday May 14 at the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Pastor Jennifer Seder will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Benjamin Doubet Park. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.

He was born May 4, 1931 in Cottonwood Falls, KS, the son of John “Mose” and Alma (Murdock) Mailen. He married Louise A. Tateman on July 27, 1951 in Eureka, KS and she preceded him in death on November 26, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie (Doug) Slaymaker of Erie, IL and Tammy (Bob) Myers of Cameron, IL and four grandchildren, Summer (Jason) Hall, Matthew (Rebecca) Slaymaker, Erik Swanson and Natalie Myers. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a brother.

Dave served his county in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a signal maintainer for the Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years. He was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, the Williamsfield American Legion and the Spoon River Antique Agriculture Association. He had served on the Town Board several different times over the years and volunteered his time putting up Christmas decorations at Benjamin Doubet Park.
