Barlow, Ernest

Ernest “Ernie” Barlow, 92, of Galva, died at 8:45 AM, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 19 at Grace United Methodist Church in Galva. Pastor Karen Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.

He was born January 24, 1922 in Kewanee and was one of the first infants born at Kewanee Public Hospital. He was the son of Ernest and Hazel (Johnson) Barlow. He married Alma J. Huber on July 3, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, a daughter, Bonnie (JR) Leitch of Springfield, IL, a son, Randy (Donna) Barlow of Heidelberg, Germany, a sister, Mary Smitz of Lakeland, FL, two grandchildren, Jenny (Nesha) Radojevic and Jesse Barlow and two great grandchildren, Luka and Sebi. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Lindbom and two brothers, John and Jimmie in infancy.

Ernie was an 92 year resident of Galva and graduated from Galva High School in 1941. He had worked as a butcher at Garrigan’s Grocery , as sales manager for Pierson’s for 20 years and also drove a school bus for many years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. His enjoyments included John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies, old style country and honky-tonk music, fishing, gardening and especially his grandchildren and his dog, Pierre.
