A Rio man accused of having illegal sexual contact with a minor has made his first court appearance since a new attorney was appointed in the case.
60 year old Elmer Price was in Knox County Circuit Court briefly this morning for a first appearance with his new Public Defender, Karl Johnson. Johnson was appointed on Monday after Public Defender Jim Harrell withdrew, citing a potential conflict of interest.
Price, prosecutors say, is believed to have fondled a young boy under the age of 13.
He’s charged with a single Class-X felony count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child.
Eyewitnesses allegedly corroborated the story as well, and Price ended up being arrested almost a month ago on a $150,000 warrant.
Price remains in jail. A preliminary hearing in the case will be held next Tuesday.
