It’s a big day in track and field for the Galesburg High School Silver Streaks boys and girls. The GHS girls are in Charleston for the opening day of the state track meet at Eastern Illinois University. 13 Streaks girls will be competing in six different events. Meanwhile the boys are in Dunlap, where the Sectional meet is being held to determine the qualifiers for next week’s boys state track meet.
It’s back to the diamond today for the Galesburg baseball team. The Silver Streaks take a record of 16-12 into today’s matchup against Moline at the East Diamond at Galesburg High School. Coach Arnie Gonzalez team will then play host to the Streaks Classic Tournament tomorrow and Saturday, before beginning regional tournament play against Geneseo next Wednesday.
The Silver Streaks girls soccer team is practicing today, in hopes of pulling off an upset in tomorrow’s regional tournament championship game against top-seeded Dunlap. The Streaks advanced with Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Limestone, while Dunlap crushed Manual 8-0. Gametime is 6pm tomorrow evening at the YMCA complex in Galesburg.
Area Regional Tourneys
A pair of games are scheduled for today at the Abingdon Regional baseball tournament. The top-seeded Ridgewood Spartans will play United in the opener, followed by the ROWVA Tigers against the host A-Town Tornados. Meanwhile in Toulon, Galva/Williamsfield battles Midland for the right to move into Saturday’s championship against Princeville.
In softball, the championship matchup at the United High School Regional was setup last night, when Galva/Williamsfield defeated United 8-to-5. The Wildcats will play Abingdon/Avon for the title Saturday morning at 11.
