Cook, Maryalpha M.

Maryalpha M. Cook, 89, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

She was born November 5, 1924 in Pontoosuc Township, Ill., the daughter of George M. and Mary Anna (Robinson) Lamb. She married William C. Powers on October 25, 1948. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1953. She later married Thomas W. Cook on April 4, 1959 in Ft. Madison, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas of 55 years; children, Carol M. Kisner in Kansas, Michael W. Cook of Sterling, Va., Bruce G. Cook of Reno, Nev., and Michele M. Cook of Hamilton, Ill.; step children, Edwin E. Evans and Beth Ann Willers; 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy Lewis; a step grandson; four brothers; and one sister.

Maryalpha was a homemaker. She graduated from Nauvoo High School in 1942. She lived most of her life in the Niota, Ill. area until moving to Galesburg in 2002. She enjoyed traveling after Thomas’ retirement and together they visited 40 states. She attended Harmony Baptist Church in Galesburg.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Ft. Madison. Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
