Antoinette Rescinito Legate, age 87, of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died at 6:56 pm Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.

She was born on January 9, 1927 in Abingdon to Matteo and Rachele Receniello Rescinito. She married Guy E. Legate on June 8, 1946 at All Soul’s Catholic Church in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2008.

She is survived by a son, Michael (and Nancy) Legate of Abingdon; a daughter, Rebecca (and Mike) Crawford of Galesburg; three grandsons and six great-grandsons; a bother, Joe (and Joan) Rescinito of Galesburg; two sisters, Rose Cundy of St. Petersburg, FL and Elvira (and Bill) Krogmeier of Holyoke, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters.

She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1945. She worked at Gale Products and later at the Abingdon School Cafeteria. She volunteered at the New Horizons in Galesburg.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg and the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of VFW Post #2257 Auxiliary in Galesburg and the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary in Abingdon.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Father William Miller will officiate. Private burial of her ashes will be in Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
