The weather looks to be cooperating for the final weekend of the regular season as the Galesburg High School baseball team prepares to host the “Streaks Classic” tournament. Galesburg, coming off of yesterday’s 4-to-3 win over Moline, takes a record of 17-12 into the event, and will face Dunlap this evening at the East Field at GHS. Tomorrow finds the Streaks playing two games: a 9am contest with East Peoria, and a 4:30 game with Geneseo. That game will be a tune-up for next week’s regional tournament, where Galesburg and Geneseo will meet again on Wednesday.
Speaking of regionals, the championship games are set for a pair of class 1A tourneys tomorrow. In Abingdon, top-seeded Ridgewood will play the ROWVA TIgers, after both won semifinal games yesterday. Ridgewood beat United 5-to-1, and ROWVA topped Abingdon-Avon 13-7. The other 1A title game tomorrow in the area will be played at Stark County High School, where Galva/Williamsfield meets Princeville.
The Galesburg boys track and field team has qualified for seven events at next weekend’s state track tournament. The Silver Streaks finished third overall out of 17 teams at yesterday’s Dunlap Sectional. Josh Eiker finished first in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes; Tevin Taylor took second place in the long jump and the triple jump; and Ryan Osborne was second in the pole vault. Several relay teams also qualified for the state meet.
The Galesburg girls are in Charleston today for the class 3A girls state meet. Yesterday, several area girls qualified for the finals this weekend. Ryan Block of Knoxville goes to the finals in the 3200 meter run, and Megan Reed of Ridgewood advanced in the triple jump.
