The Carl Sandburg Board of Trustees are confident in the tentative budget they approved during last weeks meeting.
Sandburg CFO Lisa Blake says their operating budget is at 15-million-700-thousand dollars which is a 1% decrease from the prior year.
Blake tells WGIL having a deficit budget is not ideal, but it’s something they saw coming.
“We attribute that to several retirements with the changes in the SURS pension and just having you know long time personnel being gone and bringing in personnel at lower cost.”
Blake says like with many Illinois educational institutions, higher education, elementary and secondary they’re keeping a close eye on what’s happening in Springfield.
She says the operating budget will probably be a deficit budget due to decreased funds from the state.
At this time she says they predicting a 5% decline in state funding for fiscal year 2015.
