A Rio man accused of sexually assaulting a young child has pleaded not guilty.
60-year-old Elmer Price was in Knox County Circuit Court yesterday. Public Defender Karl Johnson made the plea on Price’s behalf to a Class-X felony charge of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, after Judge Scott Shipplett found probable cause for the case to be tried.
Price was arrested earlier this month. Knox County Sheriffs Deputy Brian Brady testified that a now-11-year-old boy told an interviewer at the Knox County Child Advocacy Center Price would frequently kiss and touch him, including some alleged fondling.
The boy was interviewed after his aunt called authorities.
Brady testified that Price admitted to touching the boy, but that he was checking to see if the boy was wetting his bed.
Brady admitted, however, there is no physical evidence to prove Price did anything.
Price, through Johnson, also asked for a trial by jury. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for August fourth. A trial could begin as soon as August 18th.
