Adcock, Robert N.

Robert N. Adcock, 83, of Galesburg, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at home.

He was born March 26, 1931 in Galesburg, the son of Robert and Mary Irene (Montgomery) Adcock. He married Jolene Griffith on March 17, 1956 in Galesburg. He later married Sherrill L. (Hartzell) Peterson on December 3, 1967 in Victoria.

He is survived by his wife Sherrill; a son, David Adcock of Traverse City, Mich.; a step son, Randy (and friend Deb) Peterson of Monmouth; a step daughter, Robin (and Chuck) Boothby of Naperville; two grandchildren, Ryan Peterson and Sara Brock; a great granddaughter, Alyssa Burmood; and a brother, Edward Adcock of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert was a farmer and also was Director of Buildings and Grounds at Carl Sandburg College for 20 years, retiring in August 1996. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949 and attended Monmouth College. Robert enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, and reading.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. He was stationed in Wyoming and Korea and attained the rank of Airman First Class.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Warren County Hope Cemetery. Rev. Paul Lydic will officiate.
