The Galesburg High School boys track team finished seventh in the IHSA 2A State Track Finals at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston on Saturday. Josh Eiker finished second in the 200 meter dash. Eiker set a state record with his time in the 200 on Friday. He lost in the finals to Demoria Harris of Dunbar. Eiker also anchored the 4 by 100 relay team, which finished third, and Eiker was fourth in the 100 meter dash. He also ran the final leg of the 4 by 200 relay team. The Streaks Tevin Taylor was 10th in the long jump and placed 12th in the triple jump. Knoxville’s boys track team took two medals in the Class 1A meet at Charleston. Senior Michael Randall was seventh in the long jump. The Blue Bullets also finished fifth in the 4 by 200 relay. ROWVA’s Ethan Stanley finished 19th in the 3,200 meter run in the 1A finals.
In the Class 1A boys baseball sectional championship game at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington on Saturday, Ridgewood beat conference rival West Prairie 7-3. The Ridgewood Spartans, the Alwood/Cambridge co-op, play Argenta Oreana at 4:30 this afternoon at at the University of Illinois in the 1A super-sectional. The winner of the Ridgewood/Argenta-Oreana game meets the winner of the Illinois Lutheran of Crete/Lena-Winslow game on Friday at Dozer Park in Peoria. In Class 3A boys baseball on Saturday, Rock Island Alleman won the regional at Chillocothe, beating Geneseo, 9-2. The Alleman Pioneers meet Metamora, a 3-0 winner over Washington on Saturday, at LaSalle-Peru on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
Run Galesburg Run:
860 runners and 220 volunteers participated in the annual Run, Galesburg, Run races which was held on Sunday. Alex Ray of Crown Pt., Indiana won the half marathon with a time of 1:23.26. ROWVA senior Ethan Stanley took the 5K race with a time of 16:30. Krista Schultz of Boulder, Colorado was the top female finisher in the half marathon, with a time of 1:38.11. Maddie Dulin, a Monmouth-Roseville H.S. senior, was the first women’s finisher in the 5K race, with a time of 21:06. Jacob Malek won the one-mile fun run with a time of 5:26.
The Galesburg American Legion Post 285 baseball team opens their season on Tuesday with a 5:00 p.m. game against Kewanee. That game will be played at Knox College. Steve Cheeseman is the Legion head coach.
