A building located at 106 South Main Street in Abingdon has caught the attention of City officials.
The building is not owned by the city, but is considered to be dilapidated and is a safety concern for the City and Mayor John DeJaynes says the back wall of the building collapsed about six months ago.
DeJaynes says at this time the City is continuing with legal proceedings to allow them into the building in order to make sure the building is structurally sound.
He tells WGIL the owners have since fixed the back wall, but there’s still some concern about the building.
“We don’t want the building falling on anybody or falling on the sidewalk or anything, unfortunately its just an expense we have to absorb and I don’t think it’s that big of an expense,” says DeJaynes.
DeJaynes says it’s something City officials feel they need to do in order to make sure residents are safe.
He says they’re taken precautions incase something does happen and the building does come completely down.
