Galesburg Tries To Keep Kids Active In Summer

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 244

DaysofSummerStandish park in Galesburg looked more like a carnival than a public green space last night.

The City of Galesburg kicked off it’s 100 days of summer program with an event that allowed kids to purchase a summer activity pass.

Through the program, kids can take advantage of what the City of Galesburg offers during the summer months.

The 100 days of summer activity pass is open to youth 15 years and younger in Galesburg and the surrounding area.

City of Galesburg Superintendent of Recreation Roger Sensabaugh tells WGIL their department often hears there’s very little to do in Galesburg.

“We really firmly believe that there are a lot of things to do,” says Sensabaugh. “You’ve got the water park, you’ve got Lake Storey beach, paddle boats, water slide at the beach, the YMCA, the Civic Arts Center, the Library reading program and all of those are here [Thursday] and that’s what we’re trying to promote.”

Volunteers with the Galesburg Peacekeepers were invited to get involved while trying to find things for youth to do.

The kids pass is available for a fee and allows participants to access plenty of facilities.

Sensabaugh says the kids pass can help parents keep their kids active and engaged during the summer.
