A two vehicle accident this morning near Knoxville has left one individual dead.
The Illinois State Police say the accident occurred at 6:42 this morning when a Chevrolet Truck was travelling westbound on US 150 at I-74. At the same time, a Chevrolet Captiva was travelling eastbound on the I-74 exit ramp to US 150.
The victim stopped at a stop sign on the exit ramp according to police, but when the Captiva began travelling again, the truck allegedly struck the vehicle.
According to a press release, the driver of the Captiva was killed in the crash, but the driver of the truck – identified as 20-year-old Michael McConnell out of Knoxville – was uninjured.
The State Police officer handling the accident scene was unable to comment further when asked for details. State Police do say, however, that McConnell was cited for being in violation of driver’s license classifications.
The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of the family.
