Arnold, Alice Marie

Alice Marie Arnold, age 67 of rural Gilson, died at 3:01 pm Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born on November 1, 1946 in Table Grove, the daughter of Duane and Violet Lorene (Rutledge) Abernathy. She married William “Bill” Arnold on December 7, 1973 in Knoxville.

Alice is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her children, Stephanie Brown of Galesburg, Shelley (and Vince) McGraw of Forsyth, Sarina Davis of Manito, Brian (and Tiffany) Arnold of Ballwin, Missouri, Jill (and Faron) Wallace of Knoxville and Lorene (and Sergio) Moreno of San Juan, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Edie (and Mark) Benedetto of Lewistown, Roger (and Georgia) Abernathy of Bushnell, Dennis (and Debbie) Abernathy of Liberty, Missouri, Danna Holder of Lawson, Missouri, Sharon (and Joe) Ginger of Canton, and Lester Abernathy of Table Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Daniel Abernathy.

Alice grew up in the Table Grove area and graduated from V.I.T. High School. She had lived in rural Gilson since 1979. She worked at the former Admiral Factory and Butler Manufacturing, both in Galesburg and later at Gil Hebard’s Gun Shop in Knoxville. Her hobbies included reading, working crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, bird watching and feeding, fishing, mushrooming and canning fruits and vegetables.

Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 pm Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by a prayer service led by Mrs. Eleanor Landon. Cremation will be accorded after the prayer service.
