Officers responded to the 100 block of North Prairie Street just before 9:30 p.m. to a fight in progress.
Police heard a commotion coming from the third floor of the apartment building and, after knocking, they noticed one of those inside the space was covered in blood.
Galesburg Police say 24-year-old Britton Carruthers was allegedly in a fight with the tenant across the hall.
Officers were able to locate a victim in the hallway when they noticed bleeding, and say the victim exhibited a large laceration on his head.
According to the police report, Carruthers came to the residence to see a woman that witnesses claim he was unfaithful to.
When a neighbor, also identified as the victim in the building, attempted to prevent Carruthers from seeing the woman, Carruthers allegedly picked up a crowbar and began attacking him.
Staples were required to treat the victim’s wounds. During questioning, Carruthers allegedly told police “they shouldn’t have kept her away from me.”
Cardboard was placed on the floor to allow a walking path over the blood.
Carruthers is being charged with aggravated battery, aggravated battery involving a weapon, and felon in possession of a weapon.
