Overpass Construction at Half-way Point

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 215

Half-way done, but still slightly behind schedule.

That’s how Galesburg City Engineer Wayne Carl describes the progress of the construction of the new Seminary and Kellogg Street overpass. Carl says work is pretty much at the half-way point, and the contractor is working 10 to 12-hour days, six days a week to get caught up.

In the meantime, Carl tells the WGIL Evening News you can really see progress now that the 50-percent mark has been reached.

“All the south wall has been installed, that we could install, and the north wall is almost done – within a week, the north wall will pretty much be done,” says Carl. “On the south side, the settlement is nearly complete so we can start with the bridge building on the south side and the roadway building on the south side in a few days.”

Carl was referring to the settling of ground that was necessary before some of the construction work could begin. He says the contractor is also working on pouring roadway at Kellogg and Water Streets.

Traffic should still start going over the bridge by November 30th, but Carl says that some fencing work and other work can be done after that, all the way up to next June.
