Monmouth Man Pleads Guilty To County Market Burglary

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 243

gavelA Monmouth man will spend two years under conditional release after being sentenced Thursday in Warren County Circuit Court.

That’s according to documents from the Warren County State’s Attorney’s office – who says 20-year-old Ramiro Perez pleaded guilty to a Class 2 Felony Count of Burglary.

Perez was also facing aggravated assault charges in the case, but those were dropped in the negotiated plea due to the more serious nature of the burglary charges.

In January, Perez was taken into custody after he allegedly stole several bottles of alcohol from the County Market in Monmouth.

A few employees followed Perez out of the store and confronted him about the incident, but Perez allegedly proceeded to pull a knife on the group before escaping.

Monmouth police were able to locate the stolen bottles when they were found in a car parked about one block away at the Monmouth Manor complex.

Apart from paying $38 restitution for the alcohol, Perez will serve 10-days in the Warren County Jail with 5-days credit for time already served.

He will also be required to forfeit his Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, and turn any weapons over to the Illinois State Police.

Should Perez be found in violation of the law during his conditional release, he could be re-sentenced with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
