Harshbarger, Robin Roy, Sr.

Robin Roy Harshbarger Sr., 89, of rural Galesburg, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in the Care Center of Abingdon.

He was born February 10, 1925 in Galesburg the son of Wayne and Evelyn (Wright) Harshbarger. He married Jeannette Jean Pedigo on October 26, 1946 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Jeannette; two sons, Danny Harshbarger of Mountain Home, Ark. and Robin Jr. (and Sue) Harshbarger of Delong; three daughters, Sandy Gerald of Port Allen, La., Judy (and Cecil) Mesecher of Gilson, and Joan (and Rick) Wiley of Cameron; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce Harshbarger in Texas and James (and Tootie) Harshbarger of Galesburg; and three sisters, Patsy Peterson of Monmouth, Audrey (and Dave) Reckman in Texas, and Evelyn (and Frank) Gould of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.

Robin farmed in the Galesburg area for 48 years, retiring in 1999. He attended Galesburg High School and lived his entire life in the Galesburg area. Robin enjoyed woodworking and crafts, gardening, cooking, fishing, and hunting.

He served in the United States Army for three years during World War II. He was stationed in China, India, and Germany.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow the funeral at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
