A Galesburg foundation started in the wake of a passing of a local businessman is making some big donations once again to local organizations.
The G. L. Vitale Family Foundation — named for longtime G&M Distributors head Guy Vitale — announced yesterday that six groups will split $157,000 in gifts.
The two biggest benefactors will be the Knox County YMCA, and Knox College’s Alumni Hall renovation project. Each is receiving $50,000, and each is part of multi-year commitments of giving to those groups.
But another Knox College entity stands to receive money — the KnoxCorps fellowship program is getting $7,500 in order to fund one of its fellows working at the Galesburg-Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Galesburg’s Orpheum Theatre gets $6,400 in order to make technology improvements at the theatre.
The Foundation says KCCDD is getting almost $29,000 to renovate its recreation and learning room.
And the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum is giving there again; $15,000 will pay for supplies, materials, and for some of the work of its program coordinator.
Vitale passed away in 2010. The foundation’s board is primarily made up of members of Vitale’s family, along with several others.
