One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash near Hannibal, Missouri, Thursday.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, a Jeep Cherokee, driven by 57-year-old Rodney Miller of Galesburg, was travelling southbound on U.S. 61 around 3:20 p.m.
Miller’s vehicle was travelling in the left lane, but a second vehicle attempted to pass him on the right hand side. Reports indicate that while 36-year-old Torri Stanley of New London, Missouri was making the attempt to pass, she failed to clear Miller’s vehicle before merging back into the left lane.
The two vehicles proceeded to collide, sending Stanley’s Dodge Durango off the left side of the roadway and eventually overturning. Authorities say Miller’s vehicle was forced in the opposite direction and overturned on the right side of U.S. 61.
Ralls County Coroner Denise Goodwin was called to the crash site and pronounced Stanley dead at the scene around 4:20 p.m.
Miller, of Galesburg, was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Several agencies responded to assist in the investigation. Both cars were totaled in the crash.
