Hyslop, Josephine Chelikas

Josephine “Jo” Chelikas Hyslop, 79, of Dandridge, Tenn., formerly of Rantoul and Peoria, Ill. died at 2:09 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at her home.

She was born February 9, 1935 in Peoria, Ill. and her parents were Nicholas and Lucille Evans Chelikas. She married William Hyslop on December 14, 1957 in Quincy, Ill. He passed away November 2, 2013.

Surviving are two sons, Nicholas (and Elaine) Hyslop of Southlake, Texas and Tod (and Kimberly) Hyslop of Talbott, Tenn., and a daughter, Valerie (and Scott) Buennemeyer of Louisville, Colo., a step son, William, Jr. (and Cathy) Hyslop of Palatine, Ill., a cousin, Marilyn Bracken Houlihan and six grandchildren: Andrew, Sarah, Hannah, Joseph, Matthew and Taylor. Also surviving are two nephews Guy and Don Houlihan and one niece, Linda Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a daughter, Heidi Ann.

Jo was a Flight Attendant for Ozark Airlines in 1956 -1957. She served two years as a Red Cross Volunteer at Chanute Air Force Base during the Vietnam War. From 1987-2014, she served as the Earthen Vessel Prayer Group Leader in Rantoul, Ill. and in Dandridge, Tenn.. She was with the Catholic Charismatic Group from 1993-2014. She graduated in 1953 from Manual High School in Peoria, Ill. and attended William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. She was an Officer with the Women’s Aglow Chapter for three years and served in the Prayer, Care & Share Group for four years, both in Rantoul, Ill. Jo was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, Rantoul, Ill. and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Jefferson City, Tenn.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. July 1, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
