17th District Democrat Cheri Bustos was just outside Galesburg this morning, touring the Koppers plant off Illinois 41, joined by members of the Galesburg-area Chamber of Commerce, GREDA, and Republican State Representative Don Moffitt.
Bustos tells WGIL she learned that the railroad tie maker has done good work, and has been big for Galesburg.
“Just within the last year, they’ve made a $5-million investment in the plant and there’s about 100 employees here,” says Bustos. “They are good paying jobs, folks who work here can support their families on the pay here, and it is a thriving business.”
Bustos described the process of making the railroad ties as “very interesting.” She says the visit was part of a tour she’s periodically taken part in to highlight American jobs.
Koppers is based in the U.S., but also has some locations overseas.
Reporters were not allowed to take the tour with Bustos.
