East Galesburg Police Looking For Help in Suspicious Fire Incident

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 293

A fire in 300 block of Mattison Street in East Galesburg Saturday night has the East Galesburg Police Department looking for possible suspects.

The fire broke out around 10:00 p.m., and according to East Galesburg Police Chief Dave Caslin, the East Galesburg and Knoxville Fire Departments arrived on scene to find the home’s master bedroom on fire.

Caslin says fire crews were able to contain the fire to just the bedroom, however there was smoke damage throughout the entire home.

Officials are calling the incident suspicious due to the nature in which it was started. Caslin says the electricity was turned off and there were no candles or other items around the scene.

Caslin points out the homeowners had not been home for several weeks and the home was vacant at the time of the fire.

At this time, Caslin says they’re not at liberty to say if there are any suspects and he says they’re asking the public to come forward with any information.

If you have any information, you can call the Galesburg Area Crime Stoppers.
