A former Illinois community college official that also had a career of sorts in local government has passed away.
Everett Belote passed away Sunday according to the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, which is handling funeral arrangements.
Belote — a native of Maryland and graduate of Western Illinois University — was a Dean of the predecessor to what is now known as Black Hawk College in the Quad Cities, and also worked with other Illinois community colleges before retiring from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg in 1982.
Belote, after retirement, was elected as an alderman in Knoxville, and later became mayor in 1985, serving for four years.
The Belote family moved back to Knoxville in 2000, and that led Everett Belote to serve as an interim City Administrator and later a consultant, and he was a member of the Knoxville Plan Commission.
Funeral Services are Tuesday morning, with a visitation at Hurd-Hendricks the night before.
