A plea has been changed by a Galesburg woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from an area law firm.
37-year-old Jennifer Brown was arrested on a warrant back in December after she turned herself into authorities.
Brown is accused of allegedly writing fraudulent checks. At the time, $8,500 was signed to an account Brown had access to, but the discrepancy was allegedly found by the law offices.
Brown was facing charges of felony theft between $10-thousand and $100-thousand in the case. In addition, she was facing several forgery counts.
Back in March, Brown entered a plea of not guilty and asked for a trial by judge. It was later learned that the thefts from the Kimberly Norton Law offices were in excess of $40-thousand.
According to the police report, Brown wrote the checks to herself, but the names of vendors were found on the check stubs.
During an appearance in court on Tuesday, however, Brown changed her position and pleaded guilty to one count of theft and two Class 3 felony counts of forgery in the case.
Brown’s sentencing was continued to September 17th.
